Rare breed chicks - 11/08/2010
What a shame - August is proving to be another month of showers (just like July)!!
It's mainly animal news this week at the farm - Farmer Sam has kept me well informed on all the goings on .....
Some rare breed chicks have successfully hatched. They are called Silkies and will grow into very fancy looking chickens. At the moment they are grey but should turn white as they mature. You can see them during the animal show everyday at the moment.
Bebo the Barn Owl is behaving again - after a few weeks of being difficult and not wanting to fly. This has made Farmer Brian very happy!
One of our white hens has taken over our tool shed. She has picked one of the large buckets as a perfect nest and is at present laying an egg a day - I'll keep you posted on any developments.
The tortoises are growing bigger all the time - they are costing quite a lot to feed as they like fresh salad produce, tomatoes being a firm favourite. It will take them many years but they will eventually grow much much bigger. Keep an eye out for them!
