Animal Madness - 17/08/2010
There is plenty of animal news this week!
We have had an unexpected and very late newborn baby pygmy goat. We thought we had finished with kidding this year but a couple of days ago one last baby was born. His mother is called 'Legs' - owing to the length of her legs - she is a very tall goat. The new born, a black and grey boy, seems to have inherited the long legged gene.
All of the goats have the run of the farm first thing in the morning at the moment, they tend to gravitate towards the cabbage patch. Getting them back is easy. One shake of the food bucket and it's like the Grand National.
Farmer Deborah has also begun flying her owl 'Skip' (an Eagle Owl). He performed very well in a few animal shows at the weekend - but it's early days at the moment. I'll keep you posted.
The geese like to hang around the Cafe door early in the morning - on the hunt for any tit bits. We may have to start employing a doorman soon as they are determined to get in - of course they are not allowed and the chairs are a little high anyway.
One of our fantastic museum volunteers has been busy preparing a guidebook for the museum. It will be available soon and a copy will be on the website as well.
Tomorrow we are keenly awaiting the arrival of a new climbing frame for the outside play area - hopefully it will be a real hit with visitors - that's if they can get Farmer Brian out of the way.
We also wish one of our favourite volunteers, Hayley, a safe trip to South Africa - where she is going to spend some time looking after elephants. Good luck Hayley and keep us posted on how it goes.
